Project Etobicoke D

Design : April 2025 -> August 2025

Transportation Services has requested this project to permanently implement intersection safety improvements at Stanley Street and Station Road. Previously, temporary curb extensions were installed using pavement markings and flexible bollards as part of a temporary TSLIP (Traffic Safety Local Improvement Program) initiative. Given the positive impact of the temporary measures on traffic calming and pedestrian safety, Transportation Services has requested the design and construction of permanent curb extensions to formalize the improvements.

The intersection is located near a school, a public library, and a park, making it a busy community area with high pedestrian activity. Children, families, and seniors frequently use this intersection, highlighting the need for safer pedestrian crossings and reduced vehicle speeds. The purpose of this project is to improve safety and accessibility for all users by constructing permanent curb extensions that shorten crossing distances, enhance visibility, and calm traffic in this community hub.

The mobility plan recommends a mix of short-term improvements, such as school safety zones, refreshed crosswalks, and driver feedback signs, alongside long-term strategies like speed humps, raised intersections, curb extensions, and diverters. These measures aim to slow traffic, protect pedestrians and cyclists, and enhance accessibility for all residents. Together, the reports show that Station/Stanley is both a local safety hotspot and part of a broader neighbourhood mobility challenge, aligning with the City’s Vision Zero goals to prevent injuries and fatalities while creating safer, more walkable streets.
