Project A

Transportation Services opened this project after a string of 311 requests over pedestrian, cyclist, and senior safety, on pavement that had already reached end-of-life with extensive cracking and surface distress. What started as a straightforward resurfacing with a curb extension grew substantially near one of the intersections as scope kept shifting close to tender, and the final design covers full local road resurfacing, pavement improvements, curb extensions, cycling infrastructure, and changes to vehicle direction, all while keeping residents informed as the plan moved.

Three intersections carried most of the redesign. At Intersection A, new curb extensions and a crosswalk came with turning radii cut from 7 m to 5 m to slow vehicles down, plus regraded surfaces for better drainage. The Park A trail crossing got a bumpout finished in impressed asphalt, a relocated catch basin, and a new speed hump. At Intersection C, curb islands now block vehicle access, a raised curb inlet went in to work around a gas main obstruction, and a bioretention cell was paired with a curb-cut inlet to manage stormwater.
